Trading card types, autographs, and inserts
Understand the card categories recorded in trading card releases without assuming that every publisher uses the same rarity or numbering system.
Card type names come from the release
Regular, special, rare, autograph, insert, costume, memorabilia, and other labels describe categories found in a particular release. The same label can mean different things across publishers, so use the official source and the release-level composition together.
Autograph and insert records need context
An autograph or insert label identifies a recorded category; it does not by itself establish print run, pull rate, authenticity, or market value. Look for the source wording, variant information, and any recorded count before drawing a conclusion.
Separate category counts from card records
A composition group may contain an announced number of designs while the archive contains fewer individually cataloged cards. Treat the group count as published composition and the card rows as identified records, not interchangeable totals.
Follow the release checklist
Use the series page to inspect the categories found in that release, then review the methodology and source links. Where a category or variant is not recorded, leave it unknown instead of borrowing a structure from another product line.
Continue with a documented release
Inspect the release archive and its source coverage before comparing a category or variant with another product line.
